Will I Need Lube For My Sex Toys?
How do I know if I should purchase lubrication with my sex toys?
Lubrication is always a good idea! Using lube doesn't mean that your partner isn't turning you on. Sex toy lubrication serves many purposes, first off, making your expierence more enjoyable. When you engage in sexual intercourse, your body naturally produces lubrication to reduce the friction between you and your partner. When you use a sex toy however, your body may not be ready for penetration. Whether you are rubbing your toy against you or inserting it, you should use lubrication. Lubrication greatly reduces friction and will prevent you from getting sore.
Which lube is right for my sex toys?
There are hundreds of lubrications out there. Some are specifically designed for use with sex toys, while others should never be used with sex toys. How do you know which is right for you? Even with the hundreds of lubrications out there, only 3 types are available. Oil base lube (also sometimes called petrolium base), water base lube and silicone base lube. Water base lubrications are by far the most popular. When in doubt, choose a water base lube. They clean up quick and are safe to use on just about any toy. Silicone base lube is similar to water base, but it is waterproof (very useful in shower play). Oil base lube is our pick for anal sex.
Water-Based Lubrication:
As I stated above, when in doubt about which lube to choose for your sex toys, choose a water-base lube. Some water-base lubes include: ID Glide, Astroglide, and ForPlay. These are our most popular lubrications. The only exception to using water base lube may be anal play, however many people use water base lube for anal play with no problem. Water base lubrication can be used on virtually any sex toy like vibrators, cock rings, masturbators, and glass sex toys.
Water-base lube is great for cleanup! Many people choose this lube for it's ease of use and quick clean up. Simply rinse your sex toy off in luke-warm water and you're done! The down side to this is water or shower play. This lube is soluble (or disolves) in water, so you'll want to choose a different lube when engaging in water play with your sex toys.
If you own or plan on purchasing silicone sex toys, water base lube is your option. Silicone is made up of tiny bead-like glass structures, and when the friction of the silicone lube and the sex toy degrade the stuctures, thus ruining the sex toy.
Silicone-Based Lubrication:
Slicone based lubes are wonderful for vaginal penetration. These lubes, which include: Eros Body Glide, Fun Factory Body Fluid, and ID Millenium Lube will stay slippery and wet as long as you need them to, with no need to re-apply. These lubes are NOT soluble in water, so have fun with your fav non-silicone sex toys in the shower or jacuzzi! Be wary however, using silicone lubes in the shower will case a slippery surface, so take caution! To clean up after using this lube, use warm, soapy water. The soap will break down the lubricant. There are sex toy cleaners available that will help condition your sex toys to keep them in new condition.
Oil-Based Lubrication:
Oil based (sometimes called petrolium based) lubrication is our pick for anal sex, especially for the beginner! Some oil based lubes are: Elbow Grease, and Wet Oil-Based Classic. Only use these lubrications with non-latex toys (Oil-based lube destroys latex sex toys). Oil-based lubrications make anal entry easier and they are a thicker type of lubrication. Use caution with these lubes as they can also cause vaginal irritation. We only recommend these lubes for anal penetration. Men should even avoid these lubes for just masturbation. This lube is perfect for rubber dildos and anal sex.
